If you're looking for ways to support and manage community cats, several organizations offer Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) services to help. TNR is a humane and effective approach to reducing overpopulation while improving the health and well-being of unowned, free-roaming cats. How TNR Benefits You and Your Community:
Prevents Overpopulation: Helps control the number of stray kittens born in your neighborhood.
Healthier Cats: Spayed/neutered cats receive vaccinations and medical care, reducing disease risks.
Community-Driven: Many cats already have volunteer caretakers; TNR helps them live healthier lives.

Fostering is a rewarding experience that helps save lives while providing a temporary, loving home for pets in need. Got questions about fostering dogs, cats in Northern Nevada?
Pet fostering is a temporary arrangement where individuals care for homeless pets until they find permanent homes. Foster families provide love and care while shelters cover food, supplies, and medical expenses.
Shelters and rescues need fosters for dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, pregnant or nursing moms, senior pets, and pets recovering from medical procedures.
Most rescues provide food, crates, litter, medical care, and other essentials. Foster families only need to provide love, time, and space.
Foster durations vary from a few days to several weeks, depending on the pet’s needs and adoption timeline.
Yes! Many pets, especially cats and older dogs, do well with working foster parents. Rescues also provide guidance on introducing foster pets to existing pets.
If you can’t continue fostering, the rescue will arrange a new placement to ensure the pet continues receiving care.
Yes! Many rescues offer a "foster-to-adopt" option, allowing you to adopt your foster pet before they are made available to the public.
Organizations like the SPCA of Northern Nevada, Options Veterinary Care, and Pet Network Humane Society are actively recruiting fosters.
